چکیده

Let P be a set of points in R, and let α > 1 be a real number. We define the distance between two points p, q ∈ P as |pq|, where |pq| denotes the standard Euclidean distance between p and q. We denote the traveling salesman problem under this distance function by Tsp(d,α). We design a 5-approximation algorithm for Tsp(2,2) and generalize this result to obtain an approximation factor of 3 + √ 6 α /3 for d = 2 and all α > 2. We also study the variant Rev-Tsp of the problem where the traveling salesman is allowed to revisit points. We present a polynomial-time approximation scheme for RevTsp(2, α) with α > 2, and we show that Rev-Tsp(d,α) is apx-hard if d > 3 and α > 1. The apx-hardness proof carries over to Tsp(d, α) for the same parameter ranges.

The Traveling Salesman and Related Stochastic Problems by Allon Percus A dissertation submitted for the degree of Docteur de l ’ Université Paris 6 in

In the traveling salesman problem, one must find the length of the shortest closed tour visiting given “cities”. We study the stochastic version of the problem, taking the locations of cities and the distances separating them to be random variables drawn from an ensemble. We consider first the ensemble where cities are placed in Euclidean space. We investigate how the optimum tour length scales...

Solving the Traveling Salesman Problem by an Efficient Hybrid Metaheuristic Algorithm

The traveling salesman problem (TSP) is the problem of finding the shortest tour through all the nodes that a salesman has to visit. The TSP is probably the most famous and extensively studied problem in the field of combinatorial optimization. Because this problem is an NP-hard problem, practical large-scale instances cannot be solved by exact algorithms within acceptable computational times. ...

New Heuristic Algorithms for Solving Single-Vehicle and Multi-Vehicle Generalized Traveling Salesman Problems (GTSP)

Among numerous NP-hard problems, the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) has been one of the most explored, yet unknown one. Even a minor modification changes the problem’s status, calling for a different solution. The Generalized Traveling Salesman Problem (GTSP)expands the TSP to a much more complicated form, replacing single nodes with a group or cluster of nodes, where the objective is to fi...

Solving the Multiple Traveling Salesman Problem by a Novel Meta-heuristic Algorithm

The multiple traveling salesman problem (MTSP) is a generalization of the famous traveling salesman problem (TSP), where more than one salesman is used in the solution. Although the MTSP is a typical kind of computationally complex combinatorial optimization problem, it can be extended to a wide variety of routing problems. This paper presents an efficient and evolutionary optimization algorith...
